One of the simplest and most overlooked aspects of online marketing is that it’s not complicated. Or more to the point,, there are a lot of “experts” who try to make it complicated. Aside from whatever motivation they might have to do that online profits occur from one simple equation –

Traffic + Conversion = Sales

– performed over & over again

There are MANY ways to get traffic (visitors) to your site and cause them to take some action or “convert,” which will either result in more leads or (less frequently) result directly in more sales to your business.

So here’s the other simple rule — you only need to master 1 or 2 traffic methods and 1 or 2 conversion methods, and you will make money. When you drive you only need to know two pedals, and you don’t need to know EVERYTHING about internet marketing in order to add revenue to your business.

With that in mind, there are a few basic traffic techniques I’ve implemented in some of my sites and client sites that have universally and consistently WORKED. Here are a few of those methods — but remember, you only need to pick one or two:

Traffic Generation

1) Twitter is a highly effective means of targeting your niche and developing the conversation with your customers and prospects. There really is nothing like it. However, most businesses don’t know how to use Twitter effectively. They spam with “sales tweets” — “Look at the cool new thing I’m selling.” The 80/20 rule is highly effective — 80% of your tweets should be about something interesting, funny or otherwise engaging… a question of the day like “What’s for lunch?”… anything to get people talking, laughing, thinking… Also, keep it consistent and be generous with re-tweets. A few tweets a day go a long way toward establishing a rabid list of followers. The wrong thing to do is to Tweet like a madman for a day or two and then disappear for a month. Or worse, don’t reply when someone direct messages you or @messages you. That’s like ignoring someone at a dinner party when they ask you to pass the gravy. You WON’T get any dessert.

2) Video marketing is a very fast way to rank your site and get lots of inbound traffic. Keep your videos consistent — don’t show up one day in a baseball cap and dark lighting, talking about the rain, and another day bouncing in a jungle gym screaming about business leads. Consistent message, consistent tone, consistent look & feel. Also, be sure to put a call to action in your video’s description, as well as the full URL of your website’s landing page, and use appropriate keywords.

3) Article marketing is an evergreen method for outstanding traffic generation, with one HUGE caveat — mix it up! Putting the same article on 400 article directories will get you nowhere fast. You will get a bump in traffic from all the inbound links until Google figures out they’re all the same article and basically count it as one link. There are content spinners out there that alter the content of your articles automatically, but you have to be very careful here as well. Most content spinners change a word or two to replace it with a synonym, or they mash up the article randomly so the output is basically junk that cannot be read. It has to pass human review. So if you’re looking for a quality content spinner, ideally you want to be able to change the entire sentence many times throughout the article, and then have it spin those into hundreds of different articles. That’s the professional way to do it. At the bottom of your article, have a call to action in the information field; a blurb about you (the author) and a link to a free guide the reader can pick up at your website.

Conversion

1) Keep it simple. The landing page has to do ONE thing — get people to ACT. For this reason, it’s been called a SINGLE ACTION PAGE. Pear it down to the bare essence of what you need the visitor to do. Consider placing a video on the page with a very simple message, “Hey thanks for stopping by for my free whizbang. Just type in your first name and e-mail address and I will rush it right over to you. In just a moment after you send your information, you’ll get an e-mail with a confirmation link. Click that link and I will instantly send your free whizbang.”

2) Direct, direct, direct. Notice the video script in #1 above — see how we instructed the user on exactly what they need to do? And then we told them what to expect next, and what they would then need to do. And we closed with a reminder of the benefit — the free whizbang.

If you have trademarked the term “whizbang,” then I apologize in advance. ;)

3) Test, test, test. ALWAYS have two versions of your landing page operating at one time. You can optimize your landing page using freely available Google tools in the Web Optimizer toolbox. You really can’t go on “gut” here — the data will be you every single time. Even on PPC ads, we have literally seen the addition of a question mark in the ad increase conversion by 16.8% So test, test, test.

Conclusion

These methods work on any business in any industry. Here is some social proof –

Local landscape designer increased her traffic by 7,342% (yes seven thousand percent)

  • Local artist went from three visitors a day to an average of 41 visitors a day
  •

  • International digital publisher had zero e-commerce and started converting 16% of all traffic to revenue within 72 hours of implementing one traffic strategy and one conversion strategy
  •

  • Changing a landing page to a simple design on an e-book site turned conversion from an anemic two sales per week to eight sales a day — on the same traffic.
  •

I hope this helps your business. The average business fails to do what it takes to drive traffic or achieve conversions to their website. While they exercise 20-30 traffic methods on average, they don’t do a single one effectively.  There are many sources online to learn about effective marketing strategies, including free resources and some almost-free, like the definitive guidebook  750 Traffic Generation Methods.

Do-it-for-you solutions are also available; experience guides the appropriate strategy for the website and market. The biggest challenge business owners face is knowing which strategy to implement. Experimentation can be very costly in terms of time and lost sales… The key is to find a reputable marketing firm that offers a full range of customized services as well as downloadable products and courses to assist every website owner at every budget level.

Hydrilla is a flora found in freshwater. The Hydrilla will grow to the waters surface from a depth of up to 20 feet. This is a very familiar plant because it can almost grow in any freshwaters such as springs, rivers, fens, ditches, and lakes. Hydrillas can grow in as little as a few inches of water or in as much as 20 feet of water. This plant can grow in either oligotrophic (low nutrient) or eutrophic (high nutrient) water.

The tolerance temperature level of a Hydrilla is 20o C to 27o C; consequently, it cannot stand harsh climates. The Hydrilla has long branches that open out upon reaching the surface, forming mats. The underwater stems of the Hydrilla can be as long as 25 feet. by and large off-white or yellow in color. | The roots or Rhizomes of the Hydrilla are oftentimes yellowish or off-white in color. }There are many ways a Hydrilla can procreate. Fragmentation, from seeds, from tuber, and turions (auxiliary buds) are ways how this pest reproduces.

The Hydrilla has many positives on its side when compared to other marine floras. Only one percent sunlight is need for the Hydrilla to grow. native plants in the same area as a Hydrilla get insubstantial amounts of foods because of the Hydrillas absorption rate. Hydrillas grow quickly, competing with native plants, and are consequently considered a pestilent pest. Hydrilla is especially dangerous because it can almost entirely take over a body of water before appearing on the surface. Hydrillas will ofttimes choke out native marine plants because they take up so much surface area absorbing the sunlight and foods.

Millions of dollars are spent each year on herbicides and harvesting devices in an attempt to keep this floras growth under control. Hydrilla harms the vegetation in the surrounding area making it near hopeless for fishermen to fish. Hydrilla slows down the water current and totally clogs irrigation and flood-control canals. Bathing, yachting, and fishing all are badly affected by it. Mass amounts of Hydrilla can severely lower the oxygen levels of the water it is growing in.

The Elodea and Egeria are frequently mixed up with the Hydrilla. Hydrilla can be identified by the teeth found on the undersurface of the midrib. But for Elodea and Egeria, this is not present. Due to these teeth, we feel the roughness of these floras when we rub over from its base to the tip. Also, Egeria has bigger blooms than the Hydrilla.

Hydrilla turns into solid food for macro and micro invertebrates. Species like ducks, fish, amphibians and reptiles will consume the decomposed remains of the micro and macro organisms that fed on the Hydrilla. When Hydrilla dies naturally, they are decomposed by bacteria and fungi and the end result is “detritus” a food for numerous marine invertebrates. Ducks often eat Hydrilla turions and tubers, but this is not a substantial source of food. Ducks will frequently feed on the tubers and turions of Hydrilla, but they don’t make a great diet.

There are so many things that we choose to do with hobbies and bird identification is one of the most popular hobbies. Now when it comes to bird identification do you think it may be possible that your bird may be sick and tired of just eating pellets and seeds? It is possible and to spice up their diet, here are a few things you can give them on occasions. Fruits are great because they have vitamins and minerals. Some examples which you can give your pet bird include bananas, grapes, melons and oranges. Just remember it is fresh and whatever they do not eat after an hour should thrown away to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

The arts and how to draw cartoon is also something that we all love to do and you would think that angel sculptures are typical of churches only. The field of how to draw animals is very interesting and whether in the past you could see angel sculptures only on and in churches or in cemeteries, at present angel sculptures can be found in many places that have nothing to do with religion. Even in people’s homes angel sculptures have their place as Christmas decorations for the house or for the Christmas tree, as well as collectibles. Some people consider angel sculptures make very good gifts.

Moving on from discussing how to draw cartoon when dealing with angling fishing there are several things that you will want to keep in mind if you want to tie good fly fishing knots. First, the standard of your fly fishing knots will directly affect how well you can fish. The knots used are typically the weakest point of a rod and line assembly. This is due to the fact that the line is usually weakened when it is tied, and is often responsible for line breaks and the loss of fish.

There are several types of conferences; the dictionary definition of conference says “A meeting for the exchange of views”.

My interpretation of conference, being a conference producer, is a place where people meet to confer and share knowledge. In the sharing theme I have decided to detail the elements required to ensure your conference goes smoothly. Whether you are getting a conference production company like mine to do it for you, or if you are going to manage it yourself, follow this outline and you can be assured that if you have made ample allowances for each of the items then your attendees (usually called delegates) will have a positive experience. The better the feedback from the delegates the better the conference will have been received by the end client, either your MD or client depending on whether you are doing it yourself, or are an event organiser.

There are many different types of conferences, one of the most popular types are seminars which are normally an academic style forum where people go to learn about a specific topic.

I mention Forum above because this is probably (at least to my knowledge) the oldest type of meeting or conference that I am aware of. My partner Sam will cringe at this, as when I discuss my work, I always have to get the Romans in the story somehow A lot of the passion in my work comes from Roman history.

A Short History of Conferences

The forum as many people are aware was the centre of power in Rome for many hundreds of years, a Roman general would return from a successful campaign and he would have been received at the forum and made a speech from the rostrum to the people of Rome.

So for thousands of years people have been having conferences around the world, the tools for doing the job have changed, but I can imagine and have indeed read about, the effort and organisation that went into preparing for one was the major component of its success.Much like decorating, running a successful conference is all in the preparation!

Things haven’t changed much no matter how large or small a conference is, there are some rules that we must all follow, if it is to be a successful event.

The Right Venue

Once you have a reason to hold a conference and an audience to attend the next step is venue selection, this is crucial as you will need a room large enough for the numbers attending, without being too large. If you are going to have a conference set with rear projection then the throw distance has to be taken into account when you are looking at the room, (I will come onto throw distance later when thing get more technical) as this uses space too.

Once you have a main meeting room suitable for your delegate numbers, you then have to consider where they will have tea and coffee breaks for networking and if there is potential for exhibition style displays. Quite often a conference you will have a large group of industry leaders and corporate decision makers, why not create a form of exhibition area to promote ancillary products or services?

Quite often the majority of your conference attendees will be international visitors so a good conference production tip is to choose a venue location that offers easy access to the nearest airport.

Remember if you are going to do the job right you are also responsible for the delegate experience prior to arriving at the venue, you want them to have a pleasant journey and feel as relaxed as possible on arrival so venue location is very important, as is the type of venue.

Conference Production

Once a venue has been selected and it fits with all the criteria above, then it’s time to give your production company a call, they will normally recommend a site visit, so the room can be measured to check all of the conference production elements fit within the space proposed. There is nothing worse than turning up on the day to find something wont fit!

There are various different styles of the seating and this is an important consideration. There is theatre style seating where the delegates sit in rows next to each other. Then you have classroom style seating where delegates sit next to each other with a slim table in front similar to when you might take an exam. Then there is cabaret style seating which is where delegates are seated on round tables which are usually six feet across, with this style it is important that the delegates aren’t seated all the way around the table to ensure nobody has their back to the presenters or stage.

After your production company has completed the site visit they will propose the elements of staging you require to achieve your purpose. This will include stage and set, video projection, sound, lighting, crew levels and any pre-production requirements.

Pre-production

Not all conferences require pre-production, for example if your conference has PowerPoint slides you may want your production company to create them for you, a lot of companies now have the resources to do this in-house, but if that is the case they need to be of a professional standard.

You may want a video to be created, there are different types of messages you could utilise a video for, for example, a short opening sting, like an advert, to give a high impact start to your show. Some of the best events start this way and it also helps to ensure you have got everyone’s attention!

Sometimes there may be presenters that can’t attend so you could have them videoed prior to the event and then played back during the conference at the appropriate time.

Not all presenters are comfortable with presenting, so a speaker coach may be a good idea, the coach will do as much or as little as is required. Usually they will come into your offices and asses the presenters, presentation techniques and will advise accordingly.

The recommended event managements techniques involve outsourcing your conference to a specialist producer or production company. As with many things in life you can do it yourself, but do you really want the headache?

However, if you decide to do it yourself, then below are some useful hints and tips to creating your own successful production.

Set and Staging

A conference set is usually a timber framed construction covered in a material of a colour that fits the client’s corporate colours, normally this would have an aperture in it for rear projection with a screen, the screen should be large enough for all of the audience to see the content on the screen without straining their eyes.Remember, the larger the audience then the larger the screen needs to be.

The base of the screen, known as the under panel, needs to be at least 1.2m (5ft) to ensure the audience has a clear view over the heads of the people sat in front of them.
This is where the ceiling height comes into play. For example if you had a screen height of 2.5m, a screen base of 1.2m and a screen header, above the screen, of 300mm the minimum ceiling height required is 4m, be sure to take into account any staging or steps in your measurements.

There are many different styles of set you can use, many companies have a stock set option which is pre-built, when it is used it is recovered to suit the client’s corporate branding. Other styles of set include a bespoke set where you consult a designer who will take a brief from you regarding the theme of the event and come up with a purpose built set with various options. This is of course more expensive compared to the standard stock set options.

Whether you decide on a stock or bespoke set it is advisable to have some scale floor plans created to ensure all the elements fit into the available space and most production companies will do this in-house. if you went for the bespoke option you would receive some 3D drawings so you can visualise what the set will look like in the venue.

Once the set has been decided upon then the stage will also need to be included in the plans. The most cost effective stage option for corporate events is a standard stage the width of the set, which is normally about 2.5m deep and 450mm high.

The size also depends on what you want to have on stage during the conference, for example if you are going to have just one lectern or two, or if there is a requirement for a top table or some comfortable chairs and a coffee table.

Video Projection

Video projection is required if you want to put an image on the screen behind the speaker. The image can be data or video playback or indeed both. At small conferences this may just be a data projector and a laptop, controlled from the lectern, either with the client pushing buttons or with the help of a remote mouse so a presenter can move around the stage area freely.

You can also use a stage monitor screen so the presenter can see the slide changes without having to turn and look at the screen, the presenter should never have their back to the audience. To enable this you will require what we call a VCA DA this piece of equipment splits the signal from the laptop to both the projector and the stage monitor screen. Generally this is a trade tool only of the AV industry so if you can’t find one ask your conference production company to provide it.

If the presenter is more akin to speaking than using a computer and doesn’t want to control their own slides then a cue light system can be used. This is a hand held controller that when pressed sends a signal to a light backstage and a technician then forwards the slides for the speaker.

If you want to play DVD’s you will require a DVD player with a preview monitor and a switcher. There are many different switchers you can use but it is recommended that if you’re going to play a lot of videos during your event then a good quality data switcher should be used.

So you’ve got your data projector, your cue light system, your stage monitor and your DVD playback.

What other times do you see a corporate event using video production at a conference?

Recently I did an event which had a live camera feed. Much the same as you are used to seeing a music concerts, where there is a large screen showing the view from a live camera.

The client wanted this for two different reasons firstly there was a presenter that didn’t have any PowerPoint slides except a name slide, so when he was presenting we had a live camera feed on the screen so the audience had a more up close and personal experience with the presentation. Then we utilised the live camera feed during the question and answer session for the same effect. By using two cameras we were able to switch between the person asking the question and the speaker responding to the question so everyone could properly see and hear both the question and the answer.

The second reason was that the client wanted to use some footage for the internet like a webcast. Certain elements of the conference were edited out and compressed for the internet so that delegates who were unable to attend could get a feeling of the content of the conference|, simply by watching it on their PC’s}.

Sound System (Public Address PA)

The sound system can range from a couple of speakers and one microphone in a small conference for say 50 delegates, or multiple speakers and microphones for up to thousands of delegates.

The basic sound system requirements are speakers, amplifiers, microphones and a mixing desk.

The speakers are generally on stands, however if you are organising a large conference they may be able to be flown from truss above to give an even coverage in the centre of the room. As audiences get bigger then it gets a bit more complicated.

In the event that you do have a very large audience than a delay line is required, this ensures that the signal reaches all of the speakers in the various locations around the room, or venue, at the exact same time removing any echo.

There are various different types of microphones, the most commonly used these days are the tie clip radio microphones which enables the presenter the freedom to walk around the stage without having to worry about a trailing cable.

If the presenters are going to stay at the lectern then lectern microphones which are wired are more suitable.

With regards the amplifier, most professional amps will run four speakers so if you need eight speakers for good coverage then two amplifiers will be needed. When the amount of speakers and amplifiers is specified, the next piece of equipment required is a mixing desk, generally people who are doing their own event don’t plan for this, but it can be the one piece of crucial equipment that makes the difference between an amateur and a professional event.

The mixing desk takes in all the signals that need to be heard through the speakers, such as the microphones, CD players and video playback. Once the equipment is plugged into the Mixing console, a feed is taken out of the desk and into the amplifiers, then from the amplifier to the speakers.

After this has been done the sound engineer then equalises the system which in layman’s terms means making it sound good in areas of the room. A well equalised sound system will have the feeling for the delegate, that the presenter is seated next to them not shouting from the front of the room.

All mixing consoles have a basic equaliser on the unit itself, however a professional conference producer will know it is advisable to get a separate graphic equaliser which has more options on it.

In a very large room it is recommend having what is called a multicore which as the name suggests is a cable with multiple cores inside it that carries the signals up and down the room from the control position from front of house to the control position backstage.A multicore cable is a much tidier option and means you only have to run your cables once.

Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important visual elements of the conference. If you don’t have the luxury of a bespoke conference set then lighting can make all the difference.

There are several different types of lighting available, there is up-lighting normally provided by Par 64 floor cans, which you will recognise from seeing any professionally staged event. These can have coloured gel in them to add a set wash. There are also Fresnells which is a type of lamp which can hang from a truss or floor stand and again these can have a coloured gel in them to provide a set wash or coloured lighting effects. Profile lights are used to highlight elements of the set such as logos, steps or other details.

The most modern type of lamps on the market are LED lights. They are the most expensive type of lighting but they are worth it if you have the budget, the beauty of this type of lighting is that it can change colour at the press of a button|, which saves having to use gels to set the colour, and of course is a much more flexible for of lighting. I am sure you have seen LED lights being used all over the place these days, in torches, in mirrors, in cars, there are even some new cats eyes in the road that use LED lights.

Once the Lighting type and style is specified then it’s a good idea to get a lighting designer involved.

The designer will specify the type of lamp, where it should go, and what it’s going to do, if possible it’s best to hang lighting on a truss in front of the set, as opposed to using floor mounted stands. After the lighting has been decided on then it will need power, this usually comes from the venue supply via a dimmer rack to the lamps.

Crew

The crew is very important as they pull all the elements of the show together, professional conference production companies will know the value of a crew communication system which comprises of headphones and belt packs for each crew member allowing them to communicate with each other, and the production manager or producer.

On larger shows we have a production manager and if required a conference producer, either one of these will show call, which means they will tell the crew what they should be doing and when they should be doing it. For example, when a video is due to be played they will let the video engineer, the sound engineer and the lighting engineers know in advance so they are ready when the caller say run VT.

Transportation

Again transportation is a crucial aspect of any event, or else how is everything you have ordered going to get there at the right time on the right day? The size of the vehicle is dependent on the size of the show, it can be anything from a transit size van up to an arctic with a 40ft trailer. It is the responsibility of the conference production company to decide on the type and size of transportation, but remember if you are booking a venue and it’s a large show that requires an arctic then make sure the vehicle can get into the loading bay! Fortunately it is not from my own experience that I have learnt this but from watching a competitor learn the it the hard way many years ago at an event I was working at!

In Summary

Organising a conference requires a lot of forward planning, the more you put in to it at the beginning the smoother it will run on the day.

Remember to look after your crew because they are the ones who enable it to all happen, look after your presenters because they are the ones it is happening for, and most importantly look after your delegates if you want it to happen to them again in the future.

Introduction

Central to the mythology of mirrors is Narcissus a Boeotian hero, who disliked those who loved him for his own natural beauty. He famously gazed into a pool of water and was so fascinated with the reflection, that he was unable to bring himself to leave the image. Not realising that the image he could see was of his own natural beauty, he couldn’t bring himself to leave the image, and he perished.

The concept of how the mirror works is quite simple. It stems simply from the reflective surface of still water and therefore nature plays its part. When you look down into a puddle or a dark pool of water, the smooth water reflects the light straight back into your eyes.

Mirrors work in exactly the same way, in that a mirror is made up of a coated glass surface which when a polished metal surface or metal film is applied behind the glass, light cannot shine through and so reflects the image back. Young children particularly, are always fascinated when they look into a mirror for the first time and see their own reflection staring back at them. Anyone who has young children will remember the vision of their young son kissing their image on a mirror. My eight year old daughter loves sitting in front of her mirror doing her hair nearly as much as my fifteen year old daughter!

Where would we be today without mirrors? Mirrors are generally used for personal grooming or interior decoration and have evolved from a luxury item into a necessity. There is an enormous variety of mirror shapes and sizes and over the years, mirrors have gradually developed to meet many different requirements. Today there is a large selection of mirrors to suit every requirement, ranging from small mirrors to large mirrors, framed, unframed and includes bathroom mirrors, decorative mirrors, illuminated mirrors, LED mirrors, shaving mirrors, make up mirrors and demister mirrors.

Away from personal use, mirrors are also used in industry as part of scientific apparatus such as cameras, lasers, telescopes and periscopes, to reflect light and used as tools in dentistry and medical care. Not to mention the beauty and hair salon industries.

History of Mirrors

The history of mirrors as far as we can see dates back over 8,000 years. The earliest known mirrors were made from pieces of polished stone such as obsidian, a naturally occurring glass from cooled volcanic lava flows. In Anatolia in Turkey, examples of obsidian mirrors dated at around 6000 BC have been found. In south and central America, polished stone mirrors from around 2000 BC on wards have also been found. From around 3000 BC mirrors of polished copper are known to have been crafted in ancient Egypt. In China bronze mirrors were manufactured from around 2000 BC.

The first metal coated glass mirrors are thought to have been made in the first century AD, in Sidon, known today as Lebanon. The Roman author Pliny makes reference to glass mirrors backed with gold leaf in his Naturalis Historia, one of the largest reference books to have survived from the Roman Empire, which focused on natural and man-made objects and was written in around 77 AD.

In the 10th Century Arabian Physicists, considered different types of mirrors, reflecting mirrors and parabolic mirrors and another discussed concave and convex mirrors in both cylindrical and spherical geometries. In undertaking various experiments with mirrors, finding the point on a convex mirror at which a ray of light coming from one point is reflected to another point was solved.

During the period of the 14th to 17th Centuries, across Europe a method of coating glass with a tin-mercury amalgam was perfected by manufacturers. Venice was recognised for its glass making expertise and soon became a centre of mirror production using this new technique. Glass mirrors from this period were extremely expensive luxuries. Manufacturers also evolved in London, France and Germany.

The particular process of silvering to produce the first silvered-glass mirror is credited to German chemist Justus von Liebig in 1835. He developed a process to apply a thin layer of metallic silver onto glass through the chemical reduction of silver nitrate. The process was adapted for mass production and led to the greater availability of affordable mirrors.

The evolution of the mirror over the years is quite interesting, if like me you love mirrors! It has evolved from a luxury item to an item which is now taken for granted in daily use. Today, walk into any shop to look at mirrors and the selection is vast, with many technology features now finding there way into mirrors, to give added simplicity, luxury and decoration.

The selection in bathroom mirrors which include illumination, LED back lights and demisters is very extensive, so you can find exactly the right mirror for your bathroom.

How are Mirrors Made?

The manufacture of mirrors includes the application to a suitable material of a reflective coating. Glass is the most common material, due to its ability to take a smooth finish and its rigidity. Glass is also more scratch resistant than many other materials previously used for making mirrors.

Early mirrors were made of solid metal, bronze or silver and they were far too expensive for most to be able to afford. Metal is also prone to corrosion and because of polished metal’s low emissivity, antique mirrors were less suitable for indoor use. With indoor lighting at the time supplied by candles or lanterns, the metal mirrors reflected a much darker picturecompared to modern glass mirrors.

In modern times ‘float glass’ is used in the manufacture of mirrors, which is a flat ribbon of glass which is run out of a furnace and along the surface of a bath of molten tin. The temperature of both the glass and molten tin is controlled to enable both surfaces to be made perfectly flat. There are now three common types of mirrors: plain - which has a flat surface, and the two spherical types of mirrors: the convex and the concave. The concave and convex mirrors can be used in an entertaining way, when used at fairgrounds or amusement parks to distort peoples figures reflected in them through bloating, stretching and shrinking, the person or object in front of them.

In some applications, a mirror isn’t a mirror at all. For example, when used in public conveniences, especially in public or factory toilets, where for reasons of cost and the need for greater durability, a single polished metal sheet is often installed as a form of mirror.

Different Types of Mirror

Throughout the ages, mirrors have been employed as symbols of truth, deception and vanity. Mention a mirror and you instantly know that if you look into one, you will see your own reflection staring back at you. The image you see will resemble your own appearance. In optical principles, the reflections in mirrors do not totally match the objects in front of them. When looking into the mirror, trace the contour of the reflection of your head in a mirror. The reflection may correspond in proportion, but will generally be half in actual size.
With such a variety and huge range of mirrors now available, much has been made of the amount of money spent in purchasing mirrors especially by women, although in this day and age with an increase in men purchasing cosmetics, some men will also be vain enough to carry a mirror. I wonder if in another decade or two, me calling men vain for carrying a mirror will be thought of as ridiculous!

The vain Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs famously asked her special mirror, “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” Mirrors are synonymous with truth.
Mirrors are frequently used in interior decoration to create an illusion of space, and to decorate and amplify the apparent size of a room. They will be used around the home, the office, a pub, club or restaurant to good effect. They work particularly well in night clubs, reflecting the many images of light in the club or room to create a feeling of a much bigger space.

Infinity Mirrors provide an effect of never reaching an end, known as ‘infinity breaking’ and are particularly effective when used in a dark environment. I remember experiencing this phenomenon for the first time as a child in a large department store lift, where mirrors where on all sides of the elevator car. For those who are not good in lifts I should think this effect probably does nothing to calm them, perhaps that’s why you don’t see lifts like this anymore Or is it just because I’m getting old and that was a particular style popular in the 70’s!

My next favourite kind of mirror after the infinity mirror is the heated mirror, these mirrors have a heating element or what is called a demister pad mounted on the back. The reason a mirror steams up when you have a shower is because the surface temperature of the mirror is colder than the air temperature and causes the water vapour in the air to condense on the mirror. Some bright spark realised long ago that it if you heated the mirror this would avoid it steaming up, brilliant!

For many years heated mirrors have only featured in very expensive bathrooms usually costing thousands, and quality hotels have used heated mirrors as a neat differentiator from the increasingly popular budget hotels and motels. Of course it is not until you step out of the hotel shower and see yourself in the mirror that you realise it is there! Whilst at the back of your mind you realise this is one of the reasons why this room is more expensive than the other hotel across the street.

Last week I heard the BBC Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce state that the best shave you ever had will have been in a hotel, to which he attributed the benefit of the heated bathroom mirror as the main reason. I have to agree, and every time I stay in (nice) hotel I always have a really good look at the bathroom with a view to reproducing the best of its features in my own home.

You may think that demister mirrors are expensive, really large ones can be, but did you know you can buy the demister pad separately for only £20 and install it behind your current mirror?

In 1980, ska group The Beat had a UK top ten hit with ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’ and the bathroom is probably the location where we are most intimate with our mirrors. Many will say that it is not wise to look at yourself in the mirror first thing in the morning, but the bathroom is often the first port of call in the morning. Many bathrooms feature a main bathroom mirror positioned on a wall and a bathroom cabinet with mirror doors. Other than the “oh my god” do I really look like that expression, the uses of a mirror or mirrors in a bathroom will generally be to aid the application of make up, hair styling or shaving.

One of the major problems with bathroom mirrors is that after showering or bathing, the mirror is steamed up. A recent addition in the manufacture of heated mirrors is the inclusion of a demister pad which clears the mirror for use in just seconds. Imagine never having to again wait for the steam of the bathroom to disappear from the mirror, or having to open the window, before using the mirror to shave or apply make up. The bathroom mirror demister or steam free bathroom mirror is a great invention. Some manufacturers refer to these products as fog free bathroom mirrors and there is now a huge range available, again some with back lights, LED lighting and built in shaver sockets.

Demister mirrors and steam free bathroom mirrors are not the only recent developments on mirrors. As suggested above another reasonably new product is the illuminated bathroom mirror. Illuminated mirrors maintain the features of a simple mirror, but will enhance any environment in which they are used with the addition of lighting. As with all mirrors, the range of illuminated mirrors is extensive, with a variety of sizes and shapes available. An Illuminated mirror with shaving point can also be purchased.

Mirrors with illuminated LED lights will enhance any bathroom or environment in which they are installed. Being of low energy consumption LED, or light emitting diode, are more environmentally friendly than traditional bulbs. They are designed to withstand the wetness of the bathroom environment. So water vapour mist will not cause a problem. As a real luxury mirror, illuminated bathroom mirrors and bathroom mirrors with LED lighting can also include a demister pad, to demist the mirror in just a few seconds and an on/off sensor to activate the lights as soon as motion is detected in front of the mirror. Now bathroom cabinets are also available with inbuilt back lights, and LED lighting for that special something different in your bathroom.

As a bathroom accessory the mirror should come high on the list, in fact can you really have a finished bathroom without a mirror? The enormous selection of styles, types, shapes and sizes means that there must be a mirror to match anyone’s budget. Although some of the latest technological versions such as illuminated, back lit and LED mirrors could be considered to be luxury items, some are not as expensive as you may think.

A new LED mirror is available which has a hand sensor built into it so you can turn the lights on or off by waving your hand in front of the sensor.

Mirrors, Superstition and Auspicious Energy Flow

I have always loved mirrors, probably why I have ended up in the mirrors business! When I was at school I did a project on them, this was before the internet was invented mind so I trawled through piles and piles of reference books in both the school and local library for months. These days of course it would only take an hour on Google, kids these days don’t know how easy they’ve got it!

Once you get immersed in mirrors as I did all those years ago, or ‘mirros’ as I frequently misspelled it, and start researching them, you find that they play a major part in all aspects of life. Mirrors also feature in superstitions. One of the most commonly known superstitions is that someone who breaks a mirror will receive seven years bad luck. A popular belief for this superstition is that mirrors are a reflection of the soul and if a mirror is broken, then part of the soul is broken. Added to this, some believe that the soul regenerates every seven years in an unbroken condition, hence the seven years of bad luck. I bet you’ve always wondered why that was so I’m glad to share that with you! Mirrors were often used in traditional witchcraft too as tools for performing spells from the belief that mirrors are said to be a reflection of the soul.

It is also said that the mirror does not lie. A mirror can show only the truth. It is a very bad omen indeed to see something in a mirror which should not be there, a technique regularly used in scary movies! Some cultures also have a custom that a newborn child should not look into a mirror until its first birthday because its soul is still forming.

In the southern United States, it used to be customary to cover the mirrors in a house where the wake of a deceased person was being held. If a mirror was left uncovered or exposed, people believed that the deceased person’s soul would become trapped in any uncovered mirror.

In the ancient art of Feng Shui mirror placement is considered very important. There is a lot of information available about this, and it is a subject that can’t be covered in a mere paragraph or two here. But Chi energy flow can be influenced by mirrors so where the energy needs to be reflected, mirrors can be used for this to great effect. Personally I don’t really follow these rules, although my mum has mirrors strategically placed all over her house to redirect negative energy! One of the principles I do follow though is to make sure I don’t have any mirrors pointing at my bed, or the kids beds, as this is said to reflect your dreams back onto you whilst you are sleeping, which is not a good thing if it’s a nightmare!

Conclusion

A mirror is defined as a coated glass surface for reflecting images. There is a huge range of mirrors for commercial use, and available in many shapes and sizes. The most commonly seen uses of mirrors are for personal grooming and interior decoration. As a race we are thoroughly addicted to mirrors. Who can honestly say that they can walk past a mirror without taking a look at themselves?

Over time, mirrors have evolved from a luxury item to an item of necessity and many especially women will always carry a mirror in their hand bags. However, today with technological advancements, some mirrors will be seen as a luxury, particularly those which include illumination, LED or demisting devices. As individuals we spend many hours of our life in a bathroom, so why not treat yourself to one of life’s little luxuries and indulge in a stylish bathroom mirror? After all, let’s be honest, who can really live without looking in a mirror every day?

Ever considered why you should consider using a pay off mortgage accelerator for a debt free lifestyle? By using a mortgage accelerator, a homeowner can stay ahead because the debt in the mortgage will shrink much faster and the value of the home will not likely go down as fast as the equity build up. This type of program works without making additional payments toward the mortgage.

In recent times, mortgage accelerators have become very popular in different countries such as Australia, UK, Canada, and now in the US. By reducing the balance in your mortgage, you save money on the daily calculated interest that you’re charge by your lender. In other words, the way your mortgage is structure greatly favors banks because almost all of your initial monthly payments go toward paying the interest portion and very little towards the principal.

Many homeowner continually pay thousands of dollars in unnecessary interest charges every single year with the mindset that you can always write off the interest and get some of that money back at the end of the year-in a tax return. Why have my money sitting in a checking account earning zero percent interest or in a savings account earning 1% when debt is being accrued at 7%. There is no “safe” investing that is going to bring a higher return on your money than you will be paying in interest.

The better alternative is using other people’s money (the bank’s money) is one of the surest and fastest ways to become financially independent. The faster you pay off your mortgage, the sooner you will be able to save enough money and build your retirement nest. You can use the money you won’t have to pay to the bank in more useful ways: pay for your retirement pension, pay for your children college education, etc.

Using mortgage acceleration as a strategy for debt reduction/wealth building is the only way most people are ever going to be able to retire. They would not only increase their rate of wealth accumulation, they would lower the risk involved, and be very happy to reap the tax advantages provided by the mortgage interest.

Most millionaires will tell you they made their money by using the bank’s money to obtain greater wealth. By using a mortgage accelerator, a homeowner can stay ahead because the debt in the mortgage will shrink much faster and the value of the home will not likely go down as fast as the equity build up. The Pay Off Mortgage Accelerator will reveal the critical element of how fast you can pay off your mortgage, how to keep tens of thousands of dollars for yourself without paying extra or refinancing your current home loan.

One of the top contenders in this field is The Money Merge Account,a unique proprietary program designed to cancel thousands of dollars in interest you would of normally paid on your existing mortgage allowing you to pay off your home, free and clear, in as little as 8-11 years. The Money Merge Account is not a bi-weekly payment or debt roll-down system.

This program is offered by United First Financial or UFirst. The United First Financial program is focused on paying off the home faster and eliminating that debt all together. The MMA also allows you to figure in monthly withdrawals to any investment you would like so you would NOT miss any investment opportunity while you are accelerating your mortgage at the same time. The MMA empowers the consumer to take control of their money, for perhaps the first time in their lives.

In the months and years ahead we will begin to see banks offering similar products or forming relationships with companies that offer MMA’s. If you would like to help save other homeowners on their mortgage and would like learn how you can become an MMA consultant, please don’t hesitate to contact me at Johnny@StrategicMath.com

Private medical insurance  has been paying for the wonder drug Herceptin which has been used by several breast cancer patients after the NHS refused to give them Herceptin.

Since last year BUPA has provided Herceptin to around one hundred women who were identified as being in the initial stages of the lethal HER-2 positive type of breast cancer.  At the same time Standard Life has apparently paid for the same drug in thirty cases in the early stages of breast cancer. And since last year Norwich Union has also provided for Herceptin in first stage cases.

Lately two women with early stage breast cancer went to the High Court in an attempt to get Herceptin for treatment through their health trusts. The predicament is that Herceptin is so expensive. It costs in excess of twenty thousand  pounds for a year on Herceptin and some cash-strapped have plainly refused to fund the drug, even though Patricia Hewitt the the Secretary of Health, has commanded them to make it obtainable if doctors believe it will help.

The medicine is used after surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to avert  the reoccurrence of HER-2 positive. In subsequent years the drug has been prescribed by the NHS for women with late-stage cancer. But , Roche, its manufacturer has just recently applied to the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence for its approval to use the drug in first stage cases.

Mrs P.T from Manchester was 6 months’ pregnant when she first noticed she had a lump in her left breast. ‘My Doctor first thought the lump was a blocked milk duct’, she said. But after she had had the baby it didn’t go away,so during a routine check-up she mentioned it to the Doctor. She was then referred to a consultant.

The specialist diagnosed her with HER-2 positive breast cancer, but she lives in London  a vicinity where Herceptin was not offered by the local health trust. Luckily for her she had medical insurance through BUPA which was prepared to pay for the treatment on her consultants recommendation.

’If I’d been told I couldn’t have it, I would have been devastated’ she said. At a time when you are in shock and struggling to get well, you don’t need another struggle for the best medicine to help you.’

Herceptin has been known to cause heart failure, so Bupa is carefulcautious to fund the drug only when the decision to use it has been made jointly between the patient and her oncologist. A representative from Bupa said: ‘Many drugs have possible side effects. We never make a decision to agree to any explicit drug without getting proof of its probable benefits. We believe we have now made a proper assessment.  And others have made the same decision – branches of the NHS have now determined to pay for Herceptin in the first stage of HER-2 positive breast cancer.’

But not all health insurance companies will cover the expenditure of Herceptin. Axa PPP says: ‘Our plans provide for the treatment of critical illnesses which are likely to respond quickly to medication. In the case of cancer, this can involve surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Our company does not pay for treatment that has not been proven as being effective. On this basis we do not fund for the use of Herceptin treatment of breast cancer that has not escalated (that is the cancer remains a primary disease). AXA is conscious of recent trials with Herceptin for treating primary breast cancer, but these facts have yet to be totally assessed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence so it has not been subject to full analysis.

Bupa suggests that women who want to ensure they are fully covered for the use of Herceptin should put to their health insurer the following five questions:

1. Will they cover you for secondary cancer (ie, if I get breast cancer and it then spreads to your lungs)?

2. Will the private health insurance cover you for every stage from diagnosis through to treatment?

3. What professional accreditation does the treatment need to make sure that you are diagnosed and taken care of?

4. Will the medical insurance cover you to use Herceptin for both the earlyfirst and late stages of cancer? If so, for how long?

5. At what point would the insurance company stop paying for cancer care

When you begin to look for ways to speed up your computer and optimize it’s performance, you will come across the option of using a registry cleaner, and with these programs comes many options as well. Perhaps you are searching for freeware or maybe you are OK with spending a few bucks to get a quality product, but first you just need to know how to choose the top registry cleaner software for your needs.

That is what we are going to discuss in this article, we are going to go over the features that you should be looking for when choosing a registry cleaning application.

First, a top registry cleaner software will have the ability to remove invalid entries. Some applications will only clean out the ‘empty’ registry entries. This is a problem because the majority of registry errors, pop-up messages, and overall computer instability is actually caused by invalid entries.

To get the best reviews on registry cleaner softwares, visit XP Registry Cleaner.

A registry entry basically contains the location of some important files that are on your computer. These files are used by certain applications in order to function. If your registry cleaner only removes the empty files but leaves all of the invalid files, then over time this will cause a problem and your cleanings will no longer have a positive effect on your PC’s performance.

Second, you want to make sure that the registry cleaning tool that you choose to use has a backup feature. Nothing in life is perfect 100% of the time, and that includes registry cleaners as well. Even with the best registry cleaner software money can buy, there is no guarantee that you will not experience some form of a problem. It is not the fault of the cleaner usually and is actually caused by a poorly-written program that may have been downloaded on your PC in the past.

In the odd chance that your cleaning process encounters an error, you will need a way to restore your registry to it’s prior state and having the backup feature allows for that. Cleaning your registry can be a very finicky process, even the pros create backups first so you should too.

Although this is just a quick run down of a couple of things to look for when choosing a top registry cleaner software, there are more features that can improve the security of a registry tool as well.

As you continue on your search for a good registry cleaning tool to use, make sure that you keep these two things that I just shared with you in mind. If you don’t, you may be setting yourself up for more problems down the road. A good program should help your PC, not make it worst.
