Part of being a celebrity, actor, or actress is building a body fit for the role. How do these idols of Hollywood workout to keep looking physically perfect? Often a celebrity’s fans will use that actor or actress’s workout routine, hoping to have the same success. However, a lot of people fail to consider a fundamental question: are celebrity workouts and diets effective? Can a Hollywood workout really help you build a better body?

Great Hollywood bodies have actually evolved over time. After the movie The Terminator was released in 1984, men all over the country wanted to have the body builder look of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Since you don’t see many bodybuilders who are celebrities, it’s obvious that the appeal faded over time. When Brad Pitt played Tyler Durden in Fight Club, the look changed again. He had extremely low body fat, well defined muscles, and still maintained that dangerous look. This look became the goal for many years, and is still sought after today.

Over the past decade since Fight Club’s release, Hollywood has seen its share of more great bodies. Pitt once again blew everyone away with his god-like body in Troy, packing on muscle mass after Fight Club. Ryan Reynolds truly transformed himself in Blade Trinity where he sports an amazing set of abs. The Spartans in the movie 300 were cast as muscle-bound warriors, led by actor Gerard Butler. However, the most influential transformation involves Taylor Lautner, the star of Twilight who plays Jacob Black.

Surely if all of these Hollywood actors can get such great bodies, there must be some secret out there that is common to all of the workout routines we hear about. The various celebrity workouts and diets are generally nothing like each other, however. Some celebrities work out one muscle group per day; others perform full body circuit training workouts. Some celebrities exercise for 2-3 hours per day; others simply do 30-40 minutes of high intensity training. Some celebrities eat small meals every 2-3 hours; others eat regular meals but limit sugar or alcohol.

The bodies we see on the screen are all obtained by a variety of diets and programs. What makes this happen? Hard work and dedication. Celebrities have a distinct advantage in getting great bodies, and it’s not genetics. Celebrities have money, time, and incentive to build the best possible body. If you were offered millions of dollars to build a great body in a few months, you’d figure out how to do it - even if it meant you had to get up early, work out for hours, or dramatically restrict your diet.

A celebrity workout routine need not be perfect because the celebrity for whom it was designed has plenty of time to correct any mistakes they make. With enough motivation and time, a poor workout program can be combined with a doable eating routine to be more successful than you might imagine. Celebrities don’t have to tackle this job alone either; they hire personal nutritionists and personal trainers to help them. Unfortunately, the average working class individual has neither the time nor the resources. This significantly increases the margin for error.

So, what can you learn from a Hollywood workout? Any fitness program will work for you with enough dedication, and that is about all we can really learn from celebrity workouts and diets. However, if you want to exercise more efficiently, then don’t simply follow your favorite celebrity’s workout and diet plan. You may not be able to commit as much time to exercising. All people are not created the same, so what works for them might not do the job for you. Instead, strive for the Hollywood look, not the Hollywood workout routine, with more time efficient workouts.
